Wow what a year! I didn’t think that anything could possibly top 2018 especially when it culminated in a fabulous LIVE TV debut on BBC Breakfast and 2019 kicked off the same way but this has most definitely been another year to remember. It’s hard to believe that just over two years ago, I tentatively started to write a blog not really knowing where it would lead. Fast forward to the present day where I’m not only a respected consumer blogger in my own right but am also an independent mystery shopper, author and radio presenter! Here’s a look back at 2019 and a look forward to what’s coming up in 2020.

Blogging collaborations have blossomed and it was a real pleasure to be invited to experience the crème de la crème of Cotswolds restaurants, spas, vineyards and cideries. I’ve also been lucky enough to have the opportunity to review the fabulous productions at The Everyman Theatre on the Visit Cheltenham website. Cotswold Life’s February edition featured an article I wrote about the excellence of Cotswold spas such as Hatherley Manor, The Greenway and Dormy House. Most importantly, my focus on supporting charities wherever possible has also continued this year with a wealth of worthy local causes being showcased on the blog. I’m very proud to now be a trustee of Cheltenham Open Door and look forward to taking a more active role in supporting this inspirational organisation in 2020.

Following the success and popularity of Saturday Spotlight, which focused on celebrating the brilliance of the best companies here in the Cotswolds, I launched my new ‘Breakfast with ……’ series. This has seen me interview some of the top players in Customer Service and Consumer Rights in the world today and I’ve been just blown away at the caliber of the guests who have agreed to be featured. Watch out for some more exciting high profile interviews coming up in the New Year! Who would you most like to have breakfast with?

Media wise, this has been quite a year for Lady Janey and I could not have done it without your support and encouragement. My profile has grown in a way I could never have imagined. Reaching the final of the UK Moneybloggers for the Reader’s Choice Award alongside top UK Moneybloggers was an amazing achievement made possible only because I’m lucky to have such a lovely loyal, honest and positive following. Thank you very much!

Being featured in the Daily Mail as a Consumer Champion with Helen Dewdney, The Complaining Cow, Scott Dixon The Grumpy Git, Sara Williams from Debt Camel and Ticket Touting Campaigner Claire Turnham MBE was undoubtedly another pinnacle turning point and it’s been a rollercoaster ever since.

The Daily Mail article was quickly followed by a spin off in Woman magazine focusing on Helen, Sara and myself and in turn, this sparked an interest in engaging further with the media. I joined the FeatureMe UK Facebook group led by journalists …………. and as luck would have it the lovely Jill Foster who penned the Daily Mail article, was then announced as the guest speaker for a course on how to work with journalists organised by the PR guru that is Fiona Scott. As well as getting the opportunity to meet Jill herself, this was hand down the best course I had ever been on. I picked up lots of invaluable media and PR tips and am now a member of Fiona Scott’s members only PR Tribe on Facebook. I’d definitely recommend any course run by Fiona or Jill and the FeatureMe UK team. You can find out more about FeatureMe UK on Facebook and sign up to receive regular email updates with the latest media requests.

My first appearance was with Kate Justice BBC Gloucestershire back at the very start of my blogging journey and I absolutely loved it! Since then I have been interviewed on BBC Hereford & Worcester and Radio 4 covering a whole range of consumer and lifestyle issues. I’ve also started work at a local community radio station, Dean Radio 105.6FM where I am a regular co presenter on shows and….. STOP PRESS: I will start hosting my very own breakfast show in January! Tune in from 8-10am every Sunday from 12th January for Breakfast with Janey.

Last but by no means least, within a month of connecting with Scott Dixon through the Daily Mail article, I became an author and have now got two books in the Amazon marketplace thanks to his skills as an editor and publisher. 30 Reasons to Hire a Mystery Shopper was designed to develop my work as a Mystery Shopper. After all, if you want to be considered an expert in something then you need a book!

Are You Being Served? is completely different in its style, focus and audience as it’s a collection of ‘delightful and insightful’ poems with a fabulous foreword from none other than TV Presenter Lorraine Kelly. Both are available on Amazon as per the links below. Thank you so much if you’ve already purchased a copy, for all the lovely comments to date and also for the reviews that you write. They are very much appreciated and every bit really does help.

So what’s coming up next?

Again I can’t give too much away media wise but…………. what I can definitely say is that there will be a 3rd book published in the very near future and that there’s also other radio and magazine news afoot. BUT however tempted and excited I am about what’s round the next corner, I’ll have to wait just a bit longer before I can reveal all. Please watch this space…………. I hope you are more patient than I am!

Thank you once again for all your support in my Lady Janey journey! My word for this year was inspired and I think I can quite safely say that it’s been beyond inspirational. I can’t wait to share 2020 with you!

Happy New Year everyone! Cin cin!

Lady Janey x
