Lots of things in blogging are still new to me and this is no exception: A Christmas Tag whereby lots of bloggers create a chain of posts answering questions about what they love about Christmas. I was tagged by the lovely Lynn of Mrs Mummypenny in what she loves about Christmas so here are my thoughts.

To be honest, I’m feeling a touch bah humbug today after the recent deluge of snow. Dog walking has become an Olympic challenge so I’ll no doubt have legs of steel by the time the snow has gone and walking through the forest is nothing less than a steeplechase with all the fallen trees and branches so am thoroughly exhausted. It’s also too cold, my car is stuck on the drive and the power has been off twice over the past few days rendering me effectively blogless. Other than that, bring it on, let’s do Christmas!

What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?

Love Actually- so heart warming and funny. One minute I’m singing along, one minute I’m in tears and the next I’m laughing out loud. It’s just such a lovely, feel good film, which can’t help but move you and the message in the final scenes sums up the real meaning of Christmas in a nutshell. And if you can’t say it at Christmas, then when can you?

Have You Ever Had a White Christmas?

To be honest, I don’t remember so don’t think so. Not since I’ve been a grown up Lady J anyway. There have been winters with lots of snow but none where I remember waking up Christmas Day to a sea of white. No doubt a few too many glasses of festive fizz the night before!

Where Do You Usually Spend Your Holiday?

Either here in Gloucestershire, with family in the Northern homeland or as my husband works away a lot, we sometimes spend Christmas in some far-flung destination. However last year, my parents came here and for some unknown reason, they enjoyed it so much that they’re coming back for round 2 this year.

What Is Your Favourite Christmas Song?

A bit of Mariah Carey, All I want for Christmas is top of my list! Partly down to Love Actually but also because I love a bit of Karaoke and this is one song I could sing like it’s my own!

I also love a little Christmas hymn and for me, Silent Night is absolutely perfect.

Can You Name All of Santa’s Reindeer?

Not likely. One of the downsides to having MS is cognitive. I’m lucky that can even remember my own name never mind any of Santa’s reindeers. However, can manager Rudolph for definite and also Dancer, Prancer, Blitzen?

What Holiday Traditions Are You Looking Forward to This Year?

Making mulled wine and mulled cider always makes me a very happy Lady J, both when preparing and drinking it. Shops may be shut for a day but I always ensure a holiday supply of mulled wine and cider provision is on hand. When I was younger, mum always did table presents for Christmas, just a little novelty gift for everyone, think I’ll do that again this year. She never included herself in this so time to give a little bit back to mum.

What Is the Best Christmas Present You Ever Received?

So many lovely presents over the years so would be hard to choose. However when I was a tinier Lady J, we always used to have one ‘big present’ at Christmas and then lots of smaller ones. Did anyone else do this? Some really memorable ones were of course the legendary Cindy house and also a little grocery shop. I also enjoyed serving my ‘customers’ although think mum and dad were quite pleased when I grew out of that one as I was quite bossy.

Most Memorable Christmas Memory?

Mum and dad always said that if you saw Father Christmas that he wouldn’t be able to deliver the presents. So one Christmas Eve, when I was awake and heard rustling of bags and steps in the hallway upstairs, I buried myself under the pillow until all was quiet again. Opened my eyes and saw a pillowcase full of presents, so relieved I didn’t look!

What Made You Realise the Truth About Santa?

What truth? 😉

What Makes the Holidays Special for You?

Being off work, spending time with my husband and dog, drinking my body weight in wine and looking forward to what another year might bring, silently hoping it’ll be better than the last. Cin, cin!
