The demise of the High Street has been preying on my mind a lot recently as it’s just such a shame to see our favourite stores disappearing one by one. Last year saw a record high rate of high street store closures and this trend has continued into 2018. For this reason I headed to Debenhams for this week’s Mystery Shop because I for one, do not want to see this High Street chain biting the dust anytime soon. But is it worth saving? Read on to find out!
Friendliness of Service 10/10
I absolutely could not fault the service. I know the store quite well so it wasn’t difficult to navigate my way around to find what I needed. I thought it might be nice to find out more about the beauty services Debenhams offers because I think people often forget that they even exist. As well as offering free non-obligation mini makeovers, which you can book directly with the store, Elemis offer a range of facials at very competitive prices. I don’t know about you but shopping can be very stressful if it’s busy so a few minutes time out sounds just perfect! I spent time speaking to Ifrah and her colleague who were really happy to explain what they do and provide me with more than enough information about the products and how to book the mini makeovers and facials. There was no hard sell even though I had asked about a rival product to the one they represented and for this reason, I’ll definitely be back another day to try what they have to offer.
Service at the checkout was also excellent. I was returning some items I’d bought pre- holiday and the assistant who served me, Rhiannon, could not have been more friendly and helpful. In fact when I made my original purchases, I remember that the assistant then was also equally as personable.
Efficiency of Service 10/10
Again I cannot fault the efficiency of the service as all staff members I came across were able to answer all questions fully and knew what they were talking about. There were no queues at the till and Rhiannon processed my payment without any issues. There were a lot of staff visible in the store so if I had needed any further assistance I would not have needed to look far.
Speed of Service 10/10
The store was reasonably quiet but it was still quite early in the day so I hope this was an exception rather than the norm. As it wasn’t overly busy then I was served very quickly at the checkout and Ifrah and her colleague at the beauty counters had the time to provide information requested. I did notice when leaving the store that a queue had developed at the checkout but customers did not seem to have to wait that long before being served.
Quality of Product 9/10
I really like the quality of the clothing at Debenhams and was very pleased with the two dresses I purchased. They were ideal for the holiday and very good value for money! My returns were impulse buys and I should have made the time to try them on first instead of discovering at home that they did not fit me. What I like about Debenhams clothes wise is that you have all of your favourite styles and brands in one convenient place! I’m a bit of a Dorothy Perkins fan and the Gloucester branch has sadly just closed so the Debenhams store is now my nearest stockist.
Although on this occasion I was buying clothes, I think it’s worth mentioning that I have never been disappointed with any product I have purchased from Debenhams or any service I have received.
Overall experience 10/10
I really enjoyed my visit to Debenhams and the 10/10 is very well deserved. I will definitely make more time in my shopping schedule in future so that I can make the absolute most of all there is on offer. In many ways, it’s a one-stop shop for lots of different products and there’s also a lovely coffee shop to take a breather in.
When you’re next in town, please do pop in and take a look. I really fear that with Debenhams and other major High Street stores that it will be a sad case of ‘use it or lose it’. I really don’t want to see that happening, do you?
Hope you’re enjoying my Mystery Shops! See you next week!
