Last week I went back to my roots, literally, by having a truly fabulous highlights treatment at the award winning Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Salon in Cheltenham.
My first ever experience in customer service was at the age of 14 when I started work in my local hairdressers as a Saturday junior. However this time I was back, but on the other side of the backwash as a very lucky customer.
Lucky in a number of ways; the first one being that there was no chance of me coming out sporting anything like the shocking 80’s perm of my youth. Secondly, that there would be absolutely no brew making for a Lady Janey today, as coffee would instead be brought to me on a tray!
I must admit that I was a bit hesitant about trying somewhere new, as I am definitely a creature of habit. However, I had heard so much about this award winning salon with its first class service that when the opportunity came up, I just couldn’t turn it down. After all a salon with nominations for ‘Best Salon Experience’ and ‘Customer Care Award’ surely has to be worth a Lady Janey look.
On arrival, a tiny self-caused car parking issue was dealt with swiftly and within minutes I was safely in the creative and very capable hands of Senior Art Director, Kat. Then it was decisions, decisions as we chatted about choices of style and colour. I don’t know how Kat remembers every single detail of the products she uses and how she makes her craft seem so effortless and natural. The whole experience was just poetry in motion.
The salon itself runs to clockwork perfection with attention to detail in every respect. It is very much a team effort and a shining example of how to get the best out of your staff by taking good care of them; a quality, which a lot of companies nowadays sadly lack.
What I love about going to the hairdressers is that it always seems to turn into a coffee date with your bestie and this was no exception. General chitchat was soon gone and within just a couple of hours, life stories were told, mutual interests were found, dreams were shared and I felt like I had known Kat for years.
The ability to really connect with your customer and ensure that the experience is tailored specifically to their needs is part and parcel of excellent customer service. Everyone can be trained how to do something but some people just have it naturally in them to do so. Kat is one of them.
In order for customer service to be exceptional, you not only have to meet customer expectations but you must always strive to exceed them. As a very firm snip above the rest, the Stuart Holmes Salon seems to have got this well and truly covered
When I left my hair felt just amazing! Most definitely a ‘just stepped out of the salon’ look, which I can unfortunately never hope to recreate at home.
However, I’ll be back again as soon as I can- because I’m worth it 😉
Many thanks to the Stuart Holmes Salon for inviting me to have the full Stuart Holmes experience as part of their Black Friday week. All views and opinions are my own.
