This week’s Saturday Spotlight takes me back to one of my chosen 5 companies for delivering excellent Customer Service as featured in the March edition of Cotswold Life and what better time to return than on the week it celebrates the first anniversary of its launch! Please welcome to the Lady Janey sofa, the General Manger of The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, Cheltenham Luc Morel.
When The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie opened in December 2017 I was so excited that I couldn’t resist heading over to chat to Luc, about what we could expect. The Ivy Collection is famed for excellence and its standards of customer service are high so the pressure was on to provide the ultimate guest experience! I was equally excited to head back to chat to him about life at The Ivy one year on.
Luc’s role is General Manager at The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, Cheltenham and when I asked what was the best part of his job he said ‘Meeting and greeting and getting to know our guests. I always want to ensure diners leave having had the best possible experience.’ Luc is on the restaurant floor as much as possible to personally oversee the service The Ivy provides and he considers this very important. I then asked Luc about the hardest part of his job and he said ‘Working in hospitality is a huge commitment when it comes to your time. However, if you’re passionate about the industry then this isn’t an issue. If there’s one thing I can wholeheartedly agree with, it would be that Luc is indeed very passionate about the work he does and the quality of Customer Service The Ivy delivers.
We chatted about the level of Customer Service The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie strives to provide and Luke said ‘We deliver a high level of customer service. Our guests should expect good food served with a smile.’ That was lovely to hear as smiles are sometimes few and far between nowadays. Luc went on to say that ‘Customer service is at the very heart of what we do. It’s so important that our guests feel welcome and comfortable at all times and on each visit.’ Agreed. I always feel at home when I visit The Ivy and I hope others do too.
When I asked why people should visit The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, Luc said that it ‘Offers accessible all-day dining in the heart of Cheltenham. Guests can enjoy everything from breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, lunch, cocktails, dinner and weekend brunch, all within beautiful surroundings and under our striking Rotunda domed roof.’ It really is a lovely setting and I would definitely recommend going to take a look especially when they are currently serving mouthwateringly fabulous festive desserts such as this Snowball Fight.
Luc’s first ever job was as a waiter at the 2 Michelin star restaurant, Fleury in Beaujolais France and he says that he’s been lucky enough to have never had a job he has hated. From a young age Luc says that he ‘Always wanted to be a waiter and live in England.’ In his present position, Luc has surpassed this expectation and seems to be very much enjoying his life in England.
I asked Luc where he saw himself in 5 years time and it was nice to hear that he would like to still be overseeing The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie as General Manager. Luc says ‘I’ve got a great team behind me here in Cheltenham and have enjoyed watching them grow and progress in the last year since we opened.’ Again this is lovely to hear. Luc is very proud of his team and the customer experience they provide.
As we head towards Christmas there’s so much going on so and lots of mulled wine to be enjoyed so make sure you don’t miss out. Here’s a quick overview but do pop along to the website to find out more.
